Red Sox take game one
In Brantford, after losing ten of their last eleven games, the Red Sox opened up their best-of-seven series versus the Kitchener Panthers with a convincing 11-2 win in front of their home fans at Arnold Anderson Stadium.
The Red Sox held the Panthers to just three hits on the night, while pounding out 14 of their own in the winning cause. The two teams meet again for game two on Friday night at 8 p.m. in Brantford.
Lee Delfino led the way with three hits – a double and two singles – with two runs scored and two RBI for the Red Sox, while Terrell Alliman had a single and a home run to finish with two runs scored and three RBI. Josh McCurdy had a three hit night, scoring once and driving in a run, and Hyung Cho and Tyler Burnell each had a double with two runs scored and an RBI. Wayne Forman had two singles and scored a run in the win.
The Brantford pitching staff was on their game on Wednesday, beginning with starter and winner Mike Meyers, who gave up just two hits and two unearned runs with two walks and five strikeouts over the first eight innings of play. Stefan Strecker came in to close out the ninth inning and gave up just one hit with one strikeout.
Two of Kitcheners three hits in the game were doubles, hit by Jeremy Ware and Brian Burton, with Burton also scoring a run. Brent Mitchell had the other Kitchener hit and run scored.
Mike McGillivray took the loss, allowing 12 hits and eleven runs – eight earned – with three walks and two strikeouts over the first 5 1/3 innings.
