Sox edge Panthers in Brantford

In Branford, Al Stephens hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, his second homer of the game, to lead the Brantford Red Sox to a win 4-3 over the Kitchener Panthers in Game 2 of their first round best-of-seven series.

Brantford leads the series 2-0. Game three in the series is Saturday night in Kitchener.

Stephens had three of the Red Sox's eight hits in the game and drove in three runs to give the Sox their second straight home field victory. Terrell Alliman added two hits and an RBI and Tyler Burnell also had two hits for the winners.

Starter Chris Chavez went 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits with four strikeouts and three walks, but it was reliever Scott Robinson who got the win. Robinson went 2 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit with one walk before Stefan Strecker – on his 32nd birthday - got the final three outs for the save.

Keith Hoefel was the loser in relief for the Panthers. He went 3 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits with one strikeout and one walk in relief of starter Adam Echlin, who tossed four shutout innings.

Mike Andrulis had three of Kitchener's six hits in the game, as the Panthers failed to hold onto a 3-2 lead they built with three runs in the top of the sixth inning.
