Panthers avoid elimination
In Kitchener, the Panthers avoided elimination in their series with a hard-fought 10-7 win over the Brantford Red Sox.
Kitchener took an early 5-0 lead, only to have the Red Sox rally back to tie the game at 6-6 with a five-run sixth inning. But the Panthers scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good.
Brantford still leads the best-of-seven series 3-1. Game 5 in the series is Tuesday night in Brantford.
Adam Echlin picked up the win in relief for the Panthers, going 3 1/3 innings. He allowed two runs on five hits with two strikeouts and no walks in relief of starter Mike McGillivray.
Mike Andrulis paced Kitchener's 17-hit attack with four hits, including a homer, while also scoring twice and driving in a run. Luke Baker also homered and had three hits, scored three runs and drove in three more, while Mat Taube also had three hits with two RBI and a run scored.
Brian Burton and Ben Kangas both added a pair of hits for the Panthers, with Kangas also hitting Kitchener's third home run.
Scott Robinson, the third of five Brantford pitchers, was the loser. He was charged with two runs on two hits with two strikeouts and a walk over his two innings of work.
Jason Gotwalt had three hits, including a solo home run, scored three runs and drove in another three for the Sox, who had 12 hits. Todd Betts also had three hits in a losing cause.
